One of the many things I was impressed with was how clean Beijing was. I am talking in terms of rubbish and not hygiene and pollution.
You can spend your whole time here without seeing a single piece of rubbish on the floor which is extremely impressive for a city with a population of more than 20 million. I was genuinely intrigued on how a city can be maintained so tidy. After a few days I noticed that on nearly every street there are “street cleaners” equipped with a metal dustbin and straw sweeper who pick up waste as soon as it hits the floor. You soon realise that this isn’t that hard since the wages here are relatively low and China is one of the richest countries in the world.
